More than one sanction, appropriate control

The spill of more than 300 barrels of oil in the waters of the Maranon River it exposes the irresponsibility with PLUSPETROL operating in the Peruvian Amazon. A lack of strict controls on the area, this incident adds to a series of strokes that are affecting communities and still no end by the regulators.

A polluted river. A repeat business. Thousands of people affected and incalculable environmental damage so far caused a spill of 302 barrels of oil in the Maranon and the oil company PLUSPETROL on 19 June.

most surprising thing about this story freedom with which this company operates within the area, as brings complaints since 2007, the year that would have been causing PLUSPETROL five spills in Loreto, the same that were not reported to the Supervisory Agency for Energy Investment and Mining (OSINERGMIN).

In 2008, the Federation of Communities of Corrientes (FECONACO) revealed that there were 18 oil spills and introduced OSINERGMIN regulator in these matters, technical reports, pictures and videos which showed the damage done to the environment and their communities, but nothing was done about it.

FECONACO
According to July 2009, just five strokes PLUSPETROL reported when they had occurred eight in this year. At that time, OSINERGMIN audited and was processed to proceed with the penalty. Punishment is as yet unknown.

The spill caused the June 19 this year was a fact that could not pass unnoticed. The damage was great. More than 30km of the Mantaro river was polluted, the distance between Samur, where the spill began Parani, where they sounded the alert. In response, the case is investigated to identify the real culprits.

According to the notes circulated in the media about the allegations before PLUSPETROL, this company took over all the cleaning and restoration of contaminated areas, as on this occasion as it should be, but not have been sanctions for damages. The ultimate sanction the company made to Argentina was in 2006 by the toxic water pollution nearly 190 thousand hectares of land in Amazonia.

After passing through the tunnel necessary sanctions, the theme is the damage caused by each stroke. FECONACO technical advisor, Jimmy Campos Sedano questioned why so far no spills. "The communities are affected, people are poisoned. Loreto is our home and we are all affected, "he said. A claim, more than fair, necessary.
